Mice – Control, Treatments and Proofing
Mice – Control, Treatments and Proofing
Essex Pest Control and Bird Control have reached that time of year when pest proofing becomes one of our most requested services across London and Essex. The cold weather is here and the mice are coming inside – Rodent Control is needed.
If your property has entry points, it is only a matter of time before a mouse wanders in. Mice breed every 6-8 weeks, and have large litters. Once in a property they can quickly overrun it causing health risks, damage and stress.
Checking that your property is in a good condition can save money, time and having to have a pest control treatment to remove the infestation.
Proofing
Proofing is something that can be done by anyone. Selecting the correct materials for the job is essential.
Main areas to consider when proofing is drainage areas and under the kitchen units. Gas pipe entry points, electrical meter points, air vents and there are a few less obvious places that if missed could spell trouble.
If you carry out the rodent proofing correctly and with the right materials your home will not have any issues with pests for a long time. Just remember, mice will chew their way in if the wrong materials are used, such as just expanding foam on its own.
Treatments
Mice extermination treatments will still be required after proofing is completed. Although closing all the entry and exit points into a building will stop them getting in, it will also trap anything that is inside. Therefore a baiting programme will still be needed to eradicate the infestation that is in place.
There are several ways to do this but the best and most effective way will be to have a professional pest control company come in and lay baits, in boxes, in the key areas around the property. Whilst the bait is down the most important thing to ensure is that there are no alternative food sources left out for the mice to consume.
Control
Controlling infestations of rodents needn’t be difficult. You must remember to take away what they need: Food sources, places to nest and hide and entry/exit points.
