Body Builder Suffers 2 Years from Spider Bite

Gary Meadows, a body builder from Middlesbrough was bitten by a false widow spider almost two years ago and is still suffering regular reactions now, including four trips to the hospital!

Further to the bite from the false black widow spider, Gary’s immune system is very low and even the smallest bite from a pest, bug or insect can result in serious reactions. Gary states that when bitten by a pest he blows up like the girl from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

When the spider bit Gary back in 2011, doctors were concerned that they would have to amputate his arm as it looked so serious. Gary was gutted as he really enjoyed going fishing, swimming and work out sessions at the gym.

Gary was given the choice of losing his arm or keeping his arm but with a very large scar, which would have a skin graft from his leg to help cover the wound. Gary chose to have a permanent scar.

Experts feel that the false widow spiders first arrived in the United Kingdom via a bunch of bananas from the Canary Islands over 142 years ago, since then there has been as rapid rise in the spiders through breeding and this has resulted in some people becoming very badly harmed.

A bite from a false widow spider is normally no worse than a bee sting, but for some people the venom in the bite can cause the flesh to rot and result in serious health issues similar to the ones Gary is experiencing.
